It can be really hard to find a good role model for your kids on tv these days. Once you get past the sesame street stage, things start to get a little sketchier. I was recently watching some of the new programming on MTV, and I do not want my kids looking there for guidance.

I’m afraid that the days of william russ – type characters (Alan Matthews from Boy Meets World) are gone. The parental figures on tv these days are either sexually promiscuous, morally errant, or otherwise unfit to be admired. All I can say is that it makes me try harder to be a stand-up citizen for my children. I’m no hero, but I’m no Homer Simpson either. I hope my kids will grow to recognize that, and maybe stop hating me for banning MTV until they’re 25. Who knows? Parenting is very much a learning experience. I hope I can teach along the way.
